The Indians rallied again to beat Toronto, 3-2, to win the teams’ weekend (2-1) and season series (4-3). The Tribe won on a walkoff (3-2) on Friday and lost (6-5) by a run on Saturday. The club’s AL Central lead remains seven games, as the Tigers beat Boston in Detroit.
Jose Ramirez, who tied Friday’s game in the ninth with a solo shot, hit a two-run homer in the eighth on Sunday to give the Tribe the lead. Cody Allen earned his 24th save.
Ramirez has hit safely in 19 of 20 August games, and is hitting .383 with five homers and 15 RBI this month.
Down, 2-0, the Tribe rallied in the sixth, on three consecutive singles by Carlos Santana, Jason Kipnis and Francisco Lindor, to cut the lead to 2-1. But a double play and strikeout later and Toronto starter Marcus Stroman had escaped.
Corey Kluber struck out eight in 6.2 innings, allowing those two runs. He lowered his ERA to 3.13 and continued to be a contender in, if not the leader of, the AL Cy Young race.
