First place in the American League Central will be on the line tonight at Progressive Field after the Indians beat the Royals for a second straight night, 6-1, on Friday. The win marked the Tribe’s third straight victory.
Danny Salazar continued his All-Star-caliber 2016 season, striking out nine in eight innings. He’s 6-3, and he dropped his ERA to 2.24; he has a 10.67 K/9 IP rate.
Yan Gomes hit a solo homer in the second, while the Tribe scored three in the third: Jason Kipnis doubled and scored on Francisco Lindor’s RBI single; Mike Napoli doubled home Lindor; and Napoli eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Tyler Naquin hit a solo homer in the seventh – his first career big-league homer. Jose Ramirez later doubled, stole third and scored on an error for the game’s final run.
