The Indians earned their second consecutive walk-off win, scoring two in the ninth to beat Kansas City, 5-4, on Thursday in the opener of the teams’ four-game series at Progressive Field.
Tyler Naquin’s RBI single in the eighth cut the Royals lead to one, and Carlos Santana led off the ninth with a single, advancing to second on an error. Jason Kipnis bunted pinch-runner Michael Martinez to third, and Francisco Lindor drove him in with a triple. Mike Napoli followed with a sac fly to win it.
Earlier, Jose Ramirez and Lonnie Chisenhall logged RBI singles, while Rajai Davis walked, singled and stole a base – his 12th steal, tied for second in the American League.
Carlos Carrasco allowed three runs in five innings in his first big-league start since April 24, when he suffered a hamstring injury.
