Marlon Byrd’s two-run double in the eighth and Juan Uribe’s subsequent RBI single helped the Indians beat the Twins, 7-6, on Friday at Progressive Field.
The team’s three-run eighth immediately followed the Twins’ fourth homer of the night, by Eduardo Nunez, which gave Minnesota a 5-4 lead. Byung Ho Park hit two homers and Miguel Sano another earlier for Minnesota.
The Tribe, meanwhile, scored on Yan Gomes’ two-run homer in the second, Jason Kipnis’ solo shot in the third and Byrd’s key sixth-inning sac fly with the bases loaded to tie it at 4.
Josh Tomlin didn’t get the win, but he retired the final 11 batters he faced after Park’s second homer, in the third. Tomlin remains 12-0 following an Indians loss over the last two seasons.
