Jason Kipnis almost surely will be named the American League’s Player of the Month, with good reason. His final numbers:

  • 51 hits
  • .429 average
  • 22 extra-base hits
  • 30 runs
  • 16 walks
  • 15 doubles
  • .511 OBP

More Kipnis notes:

  • He led the majors in hits, average, runs and on-base percentage in May
  • He is the first player since 2005 (Jimmy Rollins) with 50-plus hits and 30-plus runs in one month
  • His 51 hits are the most in May in Tribe franchise history and the most in any single month since Robbie Alomar in 2000
  • He and Corey Kluber, who had 60 strikeouts in May, become only the second duo in MLB history (since at least 1914) to have 50 hits (batter) and 60 strikeouts (pitcher) – per STATS
  • Only 50 other MLB players have 51 hits this season
