#CyKluber countdown: Kluber extends innings without allowing earned run to 25 in win No. 12

(Editor’s Note: Leading up to the Nov. 12 announcement of the AL Cy Young Award, we’ll count down Corey Kluber’s 18 wins with a post per day recapping his victories.)

Date/score: August 4, 7-1

Opponent: Cincinnati Reds

Pitching line: 7.1 IP, 1 ER, 7 SO, 2 BB

Record: 12-6

2014 strikeout total: 177

Key at-bat(s): Kluber escaped jams in the first and third innings, then had little trouble until he left the game in the eighth. In the first, he induced a Brayan Pena groundout to end the inning, while in the third it was a Devin Mesoraco popout followed by another Pena groundout.

Notable: Kluber increased his career-long streak of innings pitched without allowing an earned run to 25 before allowing a run in the eighth against Cincinnati at Progressive Field. (Kluber allowed an unearned run on July 24 in Kansas City in his nine-inning outing, then pitched his Maddux on July 30.)

Game score (avg. Game Score, developed by sabermetrician Bill James, is 49-50): 67
