(Editor’s Note: Leading up to the Nov. 12 announcement of the AL Cy Young Award, we’ll count down Corey Kluber’s 18 wins with a post per day recapping his victories.)

Date/score: July 30, 2-0

Opponent: Seattle Mariners

Pitching line: 9 IP, 0 ER, 8 SO, 0 BB

Record: 11-6

2014 strikeout total: 170

Key at-bat(s): Facing off against fellow Cy Young candidate Felix Hernandez, runs were going to be at a premium – and Kluber set the tone from the start: He allowed just one base runner in the first three innings on just 33 pitches.

Notable: This would be a “Maddux,” affectionately named for the former fast-working Braves pitcher who made the quick, fewer-than-100-pitches complete game shutout a staple. Kluber threw an incredible 85 pitches in this one.

Game score (avg. Game Score, developed by sabermetrician Bill James, is 49-50 — http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/tag/_/name/bill-james-game-score): 71
