Homestand Notes: What’s going on at the ballpark with A’s, Tigers in town

Enhanced security measures: The Indians will gradually install unobtrusive, walk-through metal detectors at Progressive Field in accordance with an MLB initiative of having enhanced fan screening in place at all 30 ballparks by Opening Day 2015. The screenings will begin this homestand at Gate D, behind home plate. Each fan must be screened, though those who choose not to use the walk-through detectors can opt to be screened by hand-held wands instead. FRIDAY, MAY 16

Fireworks, presented by Wayside Furniture: The first of 17 Fireworks nights at the ballpark this season, tonight’s will be set to the music of Bruce Springsteen and is presented by Wayside Furniture.

Sugardale Dollar Dog Night: Come out to Progressive Field and enjoy Sugardale Dollar Dog Night, one of 13 during 2014. Hot dogs are only $1 in the ballpark all evening.

Alumni meet and greets: Len Barker will be on hand to meet Tribe fans, at 6PM in Heritage Park.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 17, 7:05PM

Fireworks: Another of 17 Fireworks nights at the ballpark this season, tonight’s will be set to the music of 80s Hair Bands.

Tribe Treasures Auction: The Indians Wives Association is back with one of its two major fundraisers of the season. Tribe Treasures features unique experiences available in a silent auction, and this year’s list includes meet and greets, batting practice experiences and the most creative: Hummer Ride and Menchie’s with the Mastersons! The auction also will include Mystery Balls, which are available for $40 and are signed by a mystery Indians player.

Alumni meet and greets: Joe Charboneau will be on hand to meet Tribe fans, at 6PM in Heritage Park.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 18, 1:05PM

KeyBank Kids Fun Day:Each remaining Sunday home game (except for Sept. 29) will feature KeyBank Kids Fun Days. Activities include a new SportsTime Ohio show hosted by Katie Witham and featuring Indians players; Jungle Terry; and more! Youngsters also can play in the Kids Clubhouse, featuring the Rookie Suite presented by University Hospitals and Slugger’s Sandlot presented by KeyBank.

Kids Run the Bases Presented by Cleveland Clinic Children’s:Young Tribe fans will have the opportunity to run around the bases like their favorite players. All kids (12 & Under) can stay immediately after the game to take part, and will receive a giveaway item from Cleveland Clinic Children’s when they’re finished.

MLB Honorary Bat Girl: Charlene Wuthrich, from Sullivan, is the Indians representative in the annual MLB initiative, which recognizes women for “Going to Bat against Cancer.” Charlene, who beat breast cancer and in turn became an advocate for women also going through cancer, will be recognized on the field before the game.

 

MONDAY, MAY 19, 7:05PM

Mike and Mike: The hosts of the popular ESPN morning radio show will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.

VeloSano Bike to Cure: The Indians are a proud partner of this inaugural event benefiting cancer research at Cleveland Clinic. Team VeloSano will be on the Home Run Porch conducting a bike contest and promoting the upcoming ride on July 19-20. Visit velosano.org for more details.

 

TUESDAY, MAY 20, 7:05PM

Mike and Mike: The show, presented by Indians partner Progressive Insurance, will broadcast live from Progressive Field from 6AM-10AM and will be shown on ESPN2.

20th Anniversary Commemorative Poster, courtesy of KeyBank:The poster, which 10,000 fans will receive, depicts the actual image printed in The Plain Dealer on April 5, 1994, the day after the first game played at then-Jacobs Field.

Weather Education Day: Area children will be on hand to learn about the weather from WKYC weather personalities before the afternoon game.
