Marine, family of Army Specialist tour ballpark
The Indians made Friday night special for a former Marine and a Gold Star family at Progressive Field.
Army Specialist Angel Luis Lopez was killed in action on October 5th, 2013, while serving in Zabul. He was a 2004 grad of John Marshall High. He was married with two children.
He suffered wounds when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. His family – his mom, Virginia Pacheco; stepdad, Santos Pacheco; aunt, Naomi DeJesus; and niece, Nicolette Green – were in attendance on Friday night.
Also in attendance that night was Marine Adam McCann, who was injured in 2005 in the Al Anbar region in Afghanistan. He and three other Marines were injured in a mortar blast after finding a weapons cache of artillery shells.
McCann, a devoted Tribe fan, sat in the new Brohio section on Opening Day, and had the line of the night when – with visual proof – he showed off the ladies’ Brohio shirt we gave him. Don’t worry, we’re sending him a man’s shirt!
