TENTATIVE OPENING DAY LINEUP SET: The Indians announced several
roster moves Wednesday morning that tentatively round out Cleveland’s
final Opening Day roster, as RHP JOSH TOMLIN is scheduled to be
optioned to Triple-A Columbus, while RHP CARLOS CARRASCO (rotation),
RHP BLAKE WOOD (bullpen) and RHP SCOTT ATCHISON (bullpen)
have all been informed that they will break camp on the Major League
25-man roster…barring unforeseen circumstances, Cleveland will carry 13
pitchers and 12 position players to start the year.

LATEST ROSTER MOVES: The Indians on Thursday announced that INF
JUSTIN SELLERS has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus…the club also
re-assigned RHP MATT CAPPS, C LUKE CARLIN, RHP SHAUN MARCUM
and C MATT TREANOR to Minor League camp.

SALAZAR TO START HOME OPENER: Indians MGR Terry Francona
also announced Wednesday morning that RHP DANNY SALAZAR would
start Cleveland’s home opener at Progressive Field on April 4 vs. Minnesota,
the club’s fourth game of the season…Salazar also start the most
recent game played in Cleveland, taking the bump against Tampa Bay in
the 2013 A.L. Wild Card Game.

TURN THE PAGE: The Indians have the opportunity to win their 21st
game of the exhibition slate this afternoon which would establish a new
spring-high since rejoining the Cactus League in 2009…the Tribe won its
20th Spring Training game yesterday, matching the clubs highest win total
in CL play (2006, 20-12-1)…the Indians played their final home game
of the spring on Wednesday and finished the 2014 Spring Training campaign
with a 9-6 record at Goodyear Ballpark…the Indians have played 27
games in 27 days since Cleveland’s March 1 rainout at Camelback Ranch
against Chicago-AL…Cleveland has won 4 of its last 5 games as the club
nears the season opener on March 31 in Oakland.

UNCHARTED TERRITORY: After defeating the Padres 16-4 last night,
Cleveland and San Diego are set to lock horns for a final exhibition contest
this afternoon at Fowler Park….the Tribe has yet to lose to the Friars this
spring (2-0-1)…these two clubs played 2 Cactus League games in 5 days
earlier this spring as the first game ended in a 4-4 tied, halting Cleveland’s
8-game winning streak; MICHAEL BRANTLEY went 4-4 in that contest
while 7 of 9 Tribe pitchers notched scoreless outings…the tie snapped a
streak of 7 consecutive Spring Training losses to SD – this after beating
the Padres 5 consecutive times after joining the Cactus League circuit in
2009…the Indians won the second head-to-head contest 12-7 on March
12 at Goodyear Ballpark… the Indians are 7-3 all-time against the Padres
in regular season Interleague Play, as the Tribe last took 2 of 3 from the
Friars in a 2008 series at Progressive Field…Cleveland is set to host San
Diego for 3 games at Progressive Field from April 7-9 to round out the
Tribe’s first regular season homestand of 2014.

BROADCAST INFORMATION: Today’s final Spring Training game
between the Indians and Padres can be seen live on MLB Network at
1:10/4:10pm ET…the contest can also be heard across the IRN (WTAM in
the Cleveland market) and available via webcast.

YESTERDAY’S RECAP: The Indians defeated the San Diego Padres,
16-4, at Fowler Park on the campus of the University of San Diego…the
Indians scored seven times of each of the first two innings, getting a 3-run
home run from Asdrubal Cabrera in the 1st and a 3-run home run
from Yan Gomes in the 2nd inning…both Cabrera (4RBI) and Gomes
went 3-for-4 as Ryan Raburn added 3 hits and drove in 4 runs on the
night…Carlos Santana (1-for-3, 3RS, 2BB) added a home run in the
3rd inning…Zach McAllister (4.0IP, 3H, 2R/ER, 2BB, 6K) notched
the win as Bryan Shaw and John Axford each recorded scoreless
relief outings.
