TAKE A LOAD OFF FANNY: As the Indians near the home stretch of their 2014
Arizona tenure, the team is set to enjoy its only true off day of the spring tomor-
row (Thursday)…at that point – including today’s tilt against Oakland – the Tribe
will have played 22 official games in 22 days since the start of Cactus League
play on Feb. 26, including 19 games over the last 18 days since Cleveland’s
March 1 rainout at Camelback Ranch against Chicago-AL…that does not ac-
count for two scheduled “B” games against the White Sox and Angels or the wide
range of simulated/intrasquad/minor league scrimmages that have taken place
on the Goodyear backfields…the Tribe’s next off day is scheduled for Sunday,
March 30 in advance of the club’s season opener in Oakland on March 31.
RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER: The Indians and Athletics offer a quick preview
of Opening Day as the two club’s will face off exactly 12 days before they meet
again on March 31 in Oakland to kick off the 2014 regular season…Cleveland
held a 5-2 advantage over Oakland in the 2013 regular season series, outscour-
ing the A’s 33-19…the two clubs split a pair of Cactus League matchups last
season, as the Indians are just 4-5 against the A’s since joining the CL in 2009.
ADDITIONAL WORK: With DANNY SALAZAR (4.0 innings) and CARLOS
CARRASCO (5.0 innings) scheduled to handle the load in today’s game vs.
Oakland, the Indians will use minor league games this week to get pitchers in
Major League camp additional innings…RHP JOSH TOMLIN (6.0 innings), RHP
BRYAN SHAW, RHP CODY ALLEN and RHP DAVID AARDSMA are scheduled
to appear in today’s minor league game.
YESTERDAY’S RECAP: The Indians held on to beat the San Francisco Giants
by a score of 12-11 on Tuesday evening in front of a packed house at Good-
year Ballpark…Cleveland’s lone night game of the spring evolved into a 3-hour,
29-minute display of offense that featured a combined 23 runs, 37 hits and 7 home
runs…YAN GOMES went 3-for-4 and hit a pair of home runs, including the game’s de-
cisive 2-run blast off Santiago Casilla in the sixth inning…JEFF FRANCOEUR drove in
a game-high 4 runs and picked up a pair of hits, dealing a big blow with his go-ahead
3-run shot during Cleveland’s 7-run rally in the third… MICHAEL BRANTLEY doubled
3 times, while BRYAN LaHAIR also turned in a 3-hit effort…the Giants plated all 11
runs prior to the fifth inning, scoring 4 times in the first, twice in the third and 5 times in the fourth…each of the last 5 Indians re-lievers then turned in 1.0 scoreless inning
apiece, while VINNIE PESTANO and C.C. LEE both did so while striking out the side –
Pestano retired the side in order with a called third strike against each batter he faced.
RABURN RETURNS: Ryan Raburn rejoined the Indians yesterday after spend-
ing the past 5 days in Florida with his family after the birth of his second daugh-
ter…Raburn has not appeared in a game since crashing into the right-field wall
on March 7 at Cubs Park, but is tentatively scheduled to appear in today’s game
as the DH.
