CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK’S DAY: Today, March 17, marks
Saint Patrick’s Day, an annual holiday that commemorates Saint
Patrick, the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of
Ireland…although Saint Patrick’s feast day was celebrated by the
Irish in Europe in the ninth and tenth centuries and became a holy
day of obligation in the early 1600’s, Saint Patrick’s Day did not
become an official public holiday until 1903…the government of the Republic of
Ireland began a campaign to use Saint Patrick’s Day to showcase the country
of Ireland and its culture during the 1990’s…since the Reds joined the Indians
in Goodyear in 2010, Cleveland and Cincinnati have played one another
every spring on St. Patrick’s Day, as today will mark the 5th straight year.

TODAY’S TILT: The Indians and Reds are set to meet today for the fourth time
this spring before closing out their head-to-head Cactus League series next
Monday, March 24 here at Goodyear Ballpark…after dropping the exhibition
opener to the Reds by a score of 8-3, the Indians took the next two decisions
from Cincy and went on to enjoy a ten-game stretch in which the club did not suf-
fer a single loss (9-0-1)…Cleveland is 12-9-3 against the club’s intrastate rivals
all-time in Cactus League play…beginning with the inaugural 2010 campaign, the
Indians won 5 straight and 6 of the first 8 meetings (6-1-1) here in Arizona, but
are 6-8-2 over the last 16 times Cleveland and Cincinnati have locked horns…
the regular season “Battle of Ohio” was a clean split (2-2) in 2013 as both
teams swept 2 game sets at their home parks; this year’s version of the Ohio
Cup will again feature a “home-and-home” as the 2 clubs will play four straight
games against each other from August 4-7 – the Tribe will host the Reds in the
first 2 contests followed by 2 games at Great American Ballpark…the Indians
hold a 44-41 (.518) record all-time against Cincinnati in regular season play.

SUNDAY’S CLEAN SWEEP: Cleveland swept a pair of split-squad road games
yesterday, improving to a Cactus League-best 14-3-2 this spring.

LATEST ROSTER MOVES: This morning the Indians announced several roster
moves relative to the Major League Spring Training roster…the club optioned
LHP SCOTT BARNES and LHP NICK HAGADONE to Triple-A Columbus…the
club also re-assigned RHP TRAVIS BANWART, RHP TYLER CLOYD, RHP
J.C. RAMIREZ and LHP MIKE ZAGURSKI to minor league camp.

TRIBE PITCHING NOTES: Cleveland’s pitching staff has registered a Cactus
League-low 3.09 ERA (59 ER/172.0 IP), which is also the 2nd-lowest in the Ma-
jors this spring behind only Miami’s 2.84 team ERA…JUSTIN MASTERSON has
worked 13.0 scoreless innings over 4 games/starts this spring, allowing just 6 hits
and 2 walks against 14 strikeouts; the 14 strikeouts are tied for team lead with
JOSH TOMLIN, who leads the team with 14.0 IP…BLAKE WOOD (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1
R-ER, 3 BB, 8 SO) has a team-high 7 appearances…CARLOS CARRASCO has
surrendered a single R/ER in 7.0 innings of work with 9 strikeouts, while notching
a pair of wins (team-high)…JOHN AXFORD (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R-ER) has fanned 7 in
5.0 innings of work…JOSH OUTMAN (5.0) and PRESTON GUILMET (4.0) have
yet to allow a run this spring.

UNDER THE LIGHTS: Cleveland will participate in the team’s first and only night
game of the spring on Tuesday, as the Indians are set to host the San Francisco
Giants at Goodyear Ballpark.
