CHECK YOUR BUS TICKET: The Cleveland Indians are set to hit the road today for their first and only pair of split squad games of the spring…MGR TERRY FRANCONA will take one team to Mesa where the Tribe will take on Chicago-NL at newly-opened Cubs Park; RHP JUSTIN MASTERSON, Cleveland’s Opening Day starter, will take the bump against the Cubbies…meanwhile, Bench Coach BRAD MILLS will stand in and skipper another squad against San Francisco at Scottsdale Stadium; RHP AARON HARANG is scheduled to take the hill against the Giants…a combined total of 24 minor league players will accompany the two teams (charts below), including 4 players who began the spring in Major League camp and were recently sent down (Lindor, Lowery, Naquin, Wendle).

INSTANT REPLAY: Today’s game in Mesa against the Cubs will mark the third time this spring that the Indians will have the opportunity to try out Major League Baseball’s new instant replay system, albeit with limited access to the degree of technology that will be available during the regular season…neither the Indians nor their opponent invoked instant replay privileges in the first two games…after today, Cleveland’s final two instant replay opportunities of the spring occur during “road games” against Cincinnati at Goodyear Ballpark on March 17 & March 24.
SWEET HOME…MESA: Cleveland is set to face the Chicago Cubs for the third and final time this spring, as the Indians blanked the Northsiders 1-0 on March 6 at Goodyear Ballpark before beating Chicago again the very next day at Cubs Park by a score of 7-2… the Tribe is 8-5 all-time against the Cubs since joining the Cactus League circuit in 2009…the Indians and Cubs have split 14 meetings all-time during regular season Interleague Play at an even 7-7 with the most recent series occurring in June 2009 in the Windy City…the two clubs will not meet in 2014.
I LEFT MY HEART IN…SCOTTSDALE: Cleveland will square off against San Francisco today in the first of two meetings this spring, both in the span of 3 days, as the Indians will also host the Giants on Tuesday at Goodyear Ballpark in the Tribe’s lone night game of the spring…Cleveland swept 3 meetings from San Francisco last spring and are 5-5-1 vs. the Giants since joining the Cactus League in ‘09…Cleveland hosted San Francisco in the first ever Cactus League game played at Goodyear Ballpark on Feb. 25, 2009…JEREMY SOWERS took the mound in that contest against TIM LINCECUM, which the Giants won 10-7…the Indians are 4-5 against the Giants during regular season Interleague Play, with all 9 meetings taking place between 2005-11…the Indians & Giants will play at 3-game series at AT&T Park from April 25-27.
YESTERDAY’S ACTION: The Indians lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark, moving to 12-3-2 in Cactus League play this spring…the Tribe fell into an early 3-0 hole on a pair of Arizona home runs in the first inning by Paul Goldschmidt (2-run) and Martin Prado (solo), however Cleveland’s bullpen responded by holding the Diamondbacks to a single tally over the next 8 frames…the Indians plated both of their runs in the second inning on a MIKE AVILES (3-for-3) RBI-double and LUKE CARLIN’s (2-for-3) RBIsingle…DAVID MURPHY and ELLIOT JOHNSON also turned in multi-hit efforts.
