UPCOMING BROADCAST INFORMATION: SportsTime Ohio will air a Tribe Report Season Preview on March 19 at 9:00pmET following the final spring game broadcast on March 17 when the Indians and Reds square off at Goodyear Ballpark…the TV home of the Tribe aired its first special program in advance of Opening Day on Thursday, Beating the Odds: The Al Rosen Story; this hour-long documentary profiles the life and baseball career of Cleveland Indians legend, four-time All-Star and 1953 American League MVP Al Rosen…SportsTime Ohio will televise 154 regular season games in 2014…FOX will broadcast nationally the Tribe’s June 21 game vs. Detroit – which will feature the Indians Hall of Fame induction of Omar Vizquel – while six other games (April 5, May 10, June 7, July 19, July 26 and August 9) will be broadcast on FOX’s new FOX Sports 1.

MASTERSON EARNS OPENING DAY NOD: After the affable right-hander worked 4.0 scoreless innings in Tuesday’s victory vs. Arizona, Tribe skipper Tito Francona announced that RHP JUSTIN MASTERSON would be the club’s Opening Day starter for the 3rd consecutive year when the Indians open the season on March 31 at Oakland…the 28-year-old right-hander is set to become the first Tribe pitcher to start 3 consecutive openers since CC Sabathia took the bump for 3 straight from 2006-08 and the first right-hander to do so since Bartolo Colon from 2000-02…Masterson is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA (2 ER/14.0 IP) in his 2 career Opening Day tilts.
ROTATION TAKING SHAPE: After Wednesday’s victory over the Padres Tribe manager Terry Francona announced that RHP COREY KLUBER would start the club’s second game of the season on April 1 at Oakland; after battling for a roster spot and starting the campaign at Triple-A Columbus in 2013, Kluber went 11-5 with a 3.85 ERA in 24 starts/26 games after being promoted to the big leagues on April 17…Francona has also announced that RHP ZACH MCALLISTER will start the third game of the season…rotation hopefuls RHP CARLOS CARRASCO, RHP JOSH TOMLIN and RHP TREVOR BAUER are tentatively batting for the 4th slot in the order, while RHP DANNY SALAZAR will round out the rotation as the club’s 5th starter.
TRIBE AT A GLANCE: The Indians played to their second tie of the spring yesterday, and have not suffered a loss since last Monday vs. LAA…after today’s game the Indians will play 3 straight contests away from Goodyear Ballpark including a split squad game tomorrow at San Francisco and Chigago-NL…Cleveland is 7-2 here in Goodyear…the Indians own the highest winning percentage in the Major Leagues (.857) and are just one win shy of most in the Majors…the Indians lost just their second game of the Spring on Monday after not suffering a loss over a 10-game span, going 9-0-1 with their only non-win coming in a 4-4 tie with the Padres in Peoria on March 8.
RE-RACK THE D’BACKS: The Indians will host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the two club’s second and final matchup this spring…the Tribe defeated the Diamondbacks 7-1 last Tuesday in Scottsdale as Justin Masterson tossed 4.0 hitless innings, while Lonnie Chisenhall blasted a decisive 2-run homer…the two club’s split a pair of Cactus League meetings last season as Cleveland holds a 8-5 advantage since joining the CL circuit in 2009…the Indians are also 7-5 against the D’Backs all-time during regular season play, winners of 5 of the last 6 meetings…the two club’s will play a pair of 2-game sets this season on June 24-25 at Chase Field, and again on August 12-13 in Cleveland.
