YOUTH IS SERVED: The Indians announced today that the club has selected the contract of RHP CODY ALLEN from Triple-A Columbus…the 23-year-old Allen, who was selected in the 23rd round of the 2011 June draft, would become just the 2nd player drafted last season to appear in the majors in 2012, as RHP TREVOR BAUER (1st round, 3rd overall pick) made his debut with the Arizona Diamonbacks back on June 28…even prior to the addition of Allen, Cleveland entered today with the 6th-youngest 25-man roster in the American League at 28 years, 356 days, also the 9th-youngest 25-man roster in the majors.
BULLPENNINGS: The Cleveland bullpen has kept opponents off the scoreboard in 9 of the club’s last 16 games since June 30, while posting a 2.47 ERA (13 ER/47.1 IP) and .200 (34-170) opponents’ avg in that span…that 2.47 relief ERA ranks 4th in the A.L. and 7th in the majors since June 30, while the .200 avg. is 5th-lowest in the majors behind Oakland (.152), Atlanta (.192), Los Angeles-NL (.196) and Los Angeles-AL (.199).
