The Indians fell to the Rangers 7-4 tonight at Goodyear Ballpark in front of 5,720.
Cleveland plated single runs in each of the club’s first 2 at-bats on MICHAEL BRANTLEY’s lead-off homer in the first and a bases-loaded walk by LOU MARSON in the second, while the Rangers’ DAVID MURPHY drove in a pair of runs with his first of 2 doubles in the second. With the scored tied at 2-2, Texas combined to score 4 runs over the next 2 innings to build a 6-2 advantage on home runs by IAN KINSLER (solo, third inning) and MITCH MORELAND (2-run, fourth inning), as well as an RBI-single from YORVIT TORREALBA (fourth inning). JASON KIPNIS led off the fourth inning with a solo homer and JOSE LOPEZ added an RBI-groundout in the eighth to round out the Indians scoring for the evening. CHRIS PEREZ and VINNIE PESTANO both chipped in scoreless frames, while JAIRO ASENCIO tossed a pair of shutout innings in his Cleveland debut.
Cleveland will travel to Talking Stick in Scottsdale tomorrow to take on the Colorado Rockies at 1:05PM MST/4:05 ET. RHP UBALDO JIMENEZ and RHP JEREMY GUTHRIE are scheduled to start the game, which will be broadcast live on WTAM, across the Indians Radio Network, and through an online webcast at Indians.com.
